Noida police has booked a woman lawyer for allegedly tying up her domestic help and assaulting her while she was running away.

The woman, identified as Shefali Kaul, an advocate, who lives in the Cleve township community in Ward 121, has been booked under sections 344 (unlawful imprisonment for more than 10 days), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (insulting) of the Indian Penal Code. According to the complaint, the domestic helper, Anita, worked at Shifali Cole’s home on a six-month contract that ended in October.

After the contract ended, the 20-year-old domestic worker did not want to continue working there, but the woman apparently did not let him go and locked him inside the apartment on the fourth floor of the building.

“After the contract was over, my daughter wanted to leave her place but he didn’t let her go. He took my daughter hostage in his house where he assaulted her and cursed her,” the complainant said.

Shefali even took away the domestic helper’s mobile to prevent her from contacting her family.

On Tuesday, Anita tied two dupattas together and used them to step out of the balcony.

Anita contacted her family with the help of the apartment guard and the police were also informed.

At the same time, Shefali claimed that her domestic help stole her household items and even added sleeping pills to her meals.

He also claimed to have CCTV footage and evidence to back up his claims.

According to him, Anita’s family had taken a loan of Rs 50,000 from her and after they started deducting it from her salary, they filed their charges.

Rescue children working illegally

In a separate development, nine children who were illegally employed in a garment factory in Noida were rescued by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Gautam Buddha Nagar police.

The children, including six girls and three boys from different parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, were rescued on Tuesday after receiving information from the police.

AHTU official Vinod Panwar told PTI, “The raid was conducted on the basis of information about child labor in the factory located in Sector 65 here. The raid team also consisted of officials of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Child Line.” .
