In December 2022, a Federal High Court in Abuja Rejected a request by the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest the CBN Governor.

In a letter dated December 30 seen by TheCable, Abang said Melami must begin his investigation within seven days or he will take legal action to compel him.

The lawyer said: “In view of the above complaint filed by the State Security Services, the Chief Justice of the Federal High Court, The Hon, Justice John Tsuho delivered his judgment on December 9, 2022.

A certified copy of the judgment is attached and we hereby respectfully request that your good offices conduct a full-scale criminal investigation into the circumstances leading to the failed attempt by the State Security Services (otherwise known as the Ministry of known as government services) begin. To indict the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on trumped-up charges and allegations of financing terrorism as well as various other offences.

We also request your offices to conduct a thorough investigation and ultimately arrest and prosecute all persons and/or parties involved in the botched operation for the benefit of Nigeria as a whole.

“Take notice that this letter serves as a notice to commence an action for mandamus to compel your offices to arrest and prosecute all persons and/or related parties if you fail to comply with our request within seven days from the date of service of this letter to you.”
