The owner’s lawyer says the Hamburg Inn will not close

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – An attorney representing the owner of Iowa City’s No. 2 Hamburg Inn says the iconic restaurant and political symbol will not close for another week, despite claims by managers and employees.

On Friday, managers and employees told TV9 that the Hamburg Inn will close Jan. 8, citing needed repairs and a lack of cash flow. The manager said it was up to the owner if the closure was permanent or temporary.

On Saturday, an attorney representing the Hamburg Inn told TV9 that it appeared to be confused with management and employees, and stated that the restaurant would remain open for the foreseeable future, albeit on reduced hours to address plumbing issues. to work

The Hamburg Inn has been operating reduced hours for the past few weeks and will continue to do so for the next few weeks until it is updated, said attorney Kim Bauer. “There are no plans to close the restaurant.”

Michael Lee purchased the Hamburg Inn in 2016 with plans to expand and open new locations in Iowa and even in Asia.
