UK University Becomes First To Offer Paid Qualifying Work Experience

Beginning in the spring of 2023, current and past university students can apply for a full-time six-month internship at the school’s pro bono center. However, unlike similar opportunities that other law schools offer, students at BPP are paid for their time.

BPP will initially offer five placements, but hopes to double the intake next year. Selected students have either already worked at BPP’s clinic or can become a “pro bono ethics.”

Emma Blackstone and Lucy Wildig, joint heads pro bono at BPP, noticed: “With such an established, comprehensive legal advisory facility, BPP Pro Bono Center is ideally placed to offer QWE placements. We wanted these placements to be accessible and meaningful, which is why they are paid and each placement is for six months.”
